Vicki Greil hosted the 1950's social while Donny Do-Wopp from Radio Station
Cool 101.7 played tunes.
Donny’s friends from the Do-Wopp Diner, Roger, Pinky and Bonnie joined in the fun. Roger was acting dance coordinator and he showed people how to do the twist, stroll and how to use a hula hoop without slipping a disk.
Donny Do-Wopp knew the perfect tunes to play to take people down memory lane, (some people who had been married for years) danced close, held hands and relived their youth just by hearing a favorite song from the past.
Some Guys and Dolls showed up in period clothing and why not, after all this was a blast from the past. It was like looking through a time tunnel and seeing Sandra Dee and Dion invent COOL.
A few of the girls were wall flowers and they looked darling standing around in Poodle Skirts and Scarves and check this out yours truly wore Saddle Shoes.
The Guys really showed how cool they were by wearing Tee-shirts, Blue Jeans, Sunglasses along with a little Brylcream – Be still my heart.
Ruth wore a straight skirt and stockings with seams – which, by the way, looked awfully straight – she let me in on a secret…. the seams were painted on – How clever was that.
Girls danced with girls (remember that?) Donny had a knack for getting people
their 15 minutes of fame. He handed his microphone to two gentlemen and
they sang Charlie Browns "Why is everybody always picking on me?"
They got a standing ovation. He handed a clanker bell to a lady who
started a human train; by the time she was finished she had traveled up
on stage with about 30 people in tow – can you guess what song was
played to get this train started? If you guessed "Locomotion"
you know your music and probably owned a pair of Fuzzy Dice at one time.
The dance ended way to fast; before I knew it, it was 12 midnight and once again 1950 was a memory. I wished I could have gone up on stage and turned back the hands of time on the brightly lit Pink Neon Clock and we all could stay, "STAY just a little bit longer."
